EXTENDED SHELF LIFE (ESL) PROJECT
Federal
Mfg. Co. has been supplying fillers and cappers arranged for extended shelf
life in the rage of 45-60 days since 1998. Federal has supplied
seven extended life lines that are packaging UHT process
ultra-pasteurized dairy products and six extended life juice lines for
refrigerated code life of 60-70 days.
In the summer of 2007, Federal provided a
filling line for one-gallon plastic bottles for filling HTST processed
dairy products for extended life.
A sealed sterile gallon bottle was
delivered to the filling line by Uniloy. The bottle was opened inside
of a Class 100 enclosure and filled and capped in this environment. A
compression-lined screw cap was sanitized using H2O2
and UV light treatment.
This filler featured the Federal E-Series
filling valve, and automated CIP/SIP circulating system, and exterior
sanitizing system and a sealed filler bowl with a sterile air supply
blanketing the headspace in the filler bowl.
The line was able to achieve a 29-day
refrigerated code life for standard gallons of fresh milk.
3-A SYMBOL CERTIFICATION

Federal
Mfg. Co. announces that our stainless steel gravity bottle fillers for
plastic and glass bottles have been certified to display the 3-A symbol
as it applies to Fillers and
Sealers of Containers for Fluid
Milk and Fluid Milk Products
(Standard No. 17-10; Authorization No. 1009). Also conforming to
this standard are our E-Series model fillers with E-Series filling
valves (used for ESL filling) and N-W Series Net-Weight fillers with
dual-stage valves.
Introducing
— NET WEIGHT, ULTRA-CLEAN FILLING
A NEW GENERATION OF FILLERS
FOR HIGHER FILLING STANDARDS
Today’s new generation of food and beverage products require filling
standards that will assure the consumer the highest level of freshness,
flavor and quality.
Federal has the system to help meet these new standards.
Federal
has been designing and manufacturing fillers for glass and plastic
bottles for dairy, food and pharmaceutical products for 60 years. The
goal has been improved sanitary standards to produce higher quality
products.
Federal has a
wide range of rotary gravity fillers and net-weight fillers with
capping systems to suit most applications.

Flavor
injection system: This system is built as a turret assembly to mount on
a free-standing base or may be incorporated as a component of a filler
or monoblock filler/capper. The system may be steam sterilized for ESL
operations.
Federal
designed and built a unique monoblock filler/flavor injector/capper
machine to fill small plastic bottles of fruit flavored drinks at
speeds to 600 bpm. The unit can inject up to 24 different flavors at
the same time. An ink jet coding system printed the flavor on each
bottle as it exited the filler.
The
capping system was equipped to apply a press-on plastic cap or a
heat-sealed foil closure produced with a filler mounted cap-making
press.
HEAT
SEAL-2000: A pneumatic actuated conduction
head with PLC control system has been developed for existing capper
turrets to improve heat seal and handling efficiency. This system was
used to build a free-standing heat sealing system. This system has been
further developed to use Induction sealing heads. Induction
sealing has reduced seal time and improved sealing reliability.
